(ARTISTS) Residency & Stipend at the Bemis Center—

Few programs exist either on the national or international level where the sole mission is to support the creativity of artists. From the beginning, the art-making process has been the highest priority at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha Nebraska, where both the atmosphere and environment offer ideal situations for creative growth and experimentation. Artists from around the world come to the Bemis Center to work in this supportive community and confront new challenges. The Bemis Center provides Artists-in-Residence with the gift of time, space and support.

TIME 3 months of uninterrupted, self-directed work time.

SPACE The Bemis Center is housed in two urban warehouses totaling 110,000 square feet in Omaha, NE. Each artist is provided with a generously sized live/work studio with a private bathroom and 24 hour access to facilities including a wood shop, installation spaces, dark room and a large sculpture fabrication facility.

SUPPORT each resident receives a $750 monthly stipend.

(ARTISTS & WRITERS) Can Serrat Stipends for Visual Artists, Spain—Can Serrat Residencies—Deadline: October 31st, 2011

Each year, Can Serrat offers a limited number of Support Stipends to visual artists and writers. The stipends cover 40% of the total cost (food, lodging and workspace) of stays lasting from 30-90 days(the stipend cannot be combined with discounts mentioned in the pricelist).

Each recipient may choose a 30-90 day time slot within a year from the original notification (assuming space is available at that time).

(ARTISTS) The European Pépinières for Young Artists Residency—is currently calling for proposals within two frameworks: the map 2011-2012 programme and the M4m programme.

The map 2011-2012 programme is a extension of the map programme, which has been initiated by the Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes. (ALL) Fogo Island Arts Corporation Residency Program 2012-2013—The Fogo Island Arts Corporation is a new contemporary art venue on the east coast of Canada. The Arts Corporation runs two distinct yet complementary programs, the Residency program and the Production program. (NATIVE AMERICAN ARTISTS) First Peoples Fund Invites Applications for Artist in Business Leadership Program—The First Peoples Fund’s Artist in Business Leadership Program is designed to help entrepreneurial Native American artists develop their marketing and business skills and build self-sustaining, arts-based businesses.

This one-year, self-directed program provides a working capital grant of up to $5,000 to support work on a marketing plan/strategy or business goal as defined by the artist applicant. Additional program benefits include technical assistance, a professional network of peers, and travel expenses to FPF’s professional development workshops. The fellowship places emphasis on new works to stimulate creativity and a renewal of energy in Native art expression.

(PHOTOGRAPHERS) Vision Quest Residency—Vision Quest Photo Workshops announces a new yearly grant of a one-week photographic artist’s residency. This grant provides mid-career fine-art photographers a retreat-like experience to work on their art, reflect on their artistic direction, make new photographs, plan new career paths, or to simply have time away from work/family/life pressure and stress. Photographers can use this time to move their art or career forward or to reflect on where they are at and where they are headed.

The artist will stay in a very private retreat in the woods along the banks of a pristine sand-bottom river, located near Grantsburg, Wisconsin (about an hour drive from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul). International Residency Program at The Darling Foundry in Canada

(ARTISTS) International Residency Program at The Darling Foundry—The Darling Foundry, located in Old Montreal (Quebec, Canada), is an alternative visual arts complex with an outstanding architectural design. The Darling Foundry provides opportunities for research, creation, production, and exhibition. Its multifaceted spaces, spanning 3500 square meters, provide room for residency studios, living accommodations, technical workshops, gallery spaces, a restaurant and offices.

The International Residency at the Darling Foundry is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. The program supports foreign visual artists from outside of Canada. One residency of six months will be awarded. The schedule of the residency is from the beginning of January 2012 to the end of June 2012. The resident artist will receive a grant amount of 23,000 CDN which contributes towards travel, subsistence, and production costs.

The resident artist will be provided with a studio measuring 100 square meters and a separate living accommodation (for single occupancy), with access to common living spaces. In addition, the Darling Foundry provides the laureate with organizational and technical assistance, promotion and networking opportunities. The resident artist will have the option to participate in open studio events, studio visits by arts professionals, and trips to artistic events. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee consisting of arts professionals. The committee base their selection on the artistic quality of the applicant’s artistic work, the potential impact of the residency on the applicant’s career, and the contribution to the Montreal and Canadian arts community.
